Tokyo Disney With a Toddler: Tickets, Premier Access, Rider Switch

Tokyo Disney Resort is one of the easiest big theme parks in the world to do with a small child. The rules are clear, and there’s a baby center in every park and a changing table in almost every restroom. Kids under 4 get in free.

What catches visiting families out is the system around the gates. Tickets are dated and sold online only. The free line-skip pass many blogs still mention ended on August 31, 2026. And the paid one is bought per person, inside the app, on the day.

This guide covers what a family with a toddler needs to decide before the trip, with current prices.

What tickets cost, by date

Tokyo Disney uses date-based pricing. Disneyland and DisneySea cost the same on any given day, and each ticket is good for one park. These are the price levels on sale or announced on October 9, 2026:

Adult (18+)Junior (12–17)Child (4–11)Typical days
¥8,900 (≈$56)¥7,400 (≈$47)¥5,300 (≈$34)Quietest January weekdays
¥9,900 (≈$63)¥8,200 (≈$52)¥5,600 (≈$35)Some weekdays (early November, most of January)
¥10,900 (≈$69)¥9,000 (≈$57)¥5,600 (≈$35)Most weekdays, October to December
¥11,900 (≈$75)¥9,800 (≈$62)¥5,900 (≈$37)Many Sundays, New Year week
¥12,400 (≈$78)¥10,200 (≈$65)¥5,900 (≈$37)Saturdays and long-weekend peaks

The age that counts is the age on the day you visit. A child who turns 4 the week before your trip needs a ticket.

Shorter tickets for little kids

With a toddler who naps in the afternoon or melts down by 7 p.m., a full day isn’t always the best buy.

Parks are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on most days through early January, but hours vary, so check the official calendar.

Family of four: what a typical day costs

Example: 2 adults, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old at Tokyo Disneyland on a weekday priced at ¥10,900.

ItemCost
2 adult 1-Day Passports¥21,800 (≈$138)
6-year-old (child ticket)¥5,600 (≈$35)
2-year-oldFree
Tickets total¥27,400 (≈$173)
Premier Access for Beauty and the Beast (¥2,500 × 3)¥7,500 (≈$47)
Premier Access for Baymax (¥1,500 × 3)¥4,500 (≈$28)
Stroller rental¥1,000 (≈$6)
Day total¥40,400 (≈$256), plus train fare and food

On a Saturday priced at ¥12,400, the tickets alone come to ¥30,700 (≈$194). A weekday After 5 Passport for the same family is ¥17,000 (≈$108).

Why three Premier Access purchases and not four: one is needed per ticket holder, and the 2-year-old rides free with a parent who has one (Baymax needs riders to be at least 81 cm tall).

When tickets go on sale, and how to buy them

Tickets go on sale every day at 2:00 p.m. Japan time for the same date two months later. Tickets for December 9 went on sale on October 9 at 2 p.m. If that date doesn’t exist two months on (say, you’re buying on December 31 for February), sales open at 2 p.m. on the 1st of the next month.

Popular Saturdays and holiday weeks go first, so if your dates are fixed, buy on the day sales open. If you’d rather book through a travel app you already use, resellers like Klook also sell dated park tickets that scan straight at the gate; compare the price for your date with the official one before you buy.

Premier Access, and the end of the free Priority Pass

Priority Pass: ended

Tokyo Disney’s free return-time system, the “40th Anniversary Priority Pass,” ended on August 31, 2026. Trip reports and guides written before September 2026 still describe it, so ignore advice built around grabbing free passes.

Disney Premier Access (paid)

Disney Premier Access (DPA) is the paid way to skip most of the line. You buy it in the app on the day of your visit, pick a return time, and walk in through a separate entrance.

The rules that matter for families:

What it costs (per person, per ride)

ParkRidePriceCan a toddler ride?
DisneylandEnchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast¥2,500 (≈$16)No height limit listed
DisneylandThe Happy Ride with Baymax¥1,500 (≈$9)81 cm and up
DisneylandPooh’s Hunny Hunt¥1,500 (≈$9)No height limit listed
DisneylandMonsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek!¥1,000 (≈$6)No height limit listed
DisneySeaAnna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey¥2,500 (≈$16)No height limit listed
DisneySeaRapunzel’s Lantern Festival¥2,000 (≈$13)Yes, even in your arms
DisneySeaPeter Pan’s Never Land Adventure¥2,000 (≈$13)102 cm and up
DisneySeaToy Story Mania!¥2,000 (≈$13)No height limit listed

Parades and shows also have DPA viewing areas, from ¥2,500 to ¥3,500 (≈$16–$22) per person; a child under 4 sits on your lap or in your spot. The full list and prices change with the season. Indiana Jones Adventure at DisneySea is closed for refurbishment and reopens on November 30, 2026.

As the Reddit parents put it, the trick is to keep refreshing the app. Set it up, link your whole party’s tickets in a group, and add a card before you leave the hotel.

Rider Switch: how parents take turns

If your child is too small for a ride and there are two or more adults, Rider Switch lets one parent ride while the other waits with the child, then swap without lining up twice.

  1. Before you join the queue, tell the cast member at the ride entrance you want Rider Switch, with your park tickets ready.
  2. The first adult lines up as normal and rides.
  3. The cast member sets a return time on the second adult’s park ticket, based on the current wait.
  4. At that time, the second adult goes back, tells the cast member at the entrance, shows the ticket, and rides with a much shorter wait.

Each person rides once. If three adults want to ride, one rides alone. It works at every ride with boarding requirements. On a ride where you’re using Premier Access, buy DPA for every adult who’ll ride and go together at the return time.

Height limits for the main rides

There are no age limits, but children under 7 must ride with someone aged 16 or older.

Minimum heightTokyo DisneylandTokyo DisneySea
81 cmThe Happy Ride with Baymax—
90 cmSplash Mountain, Gadget’s Go CoasterNemo & Friends SeaRider, Flounder’s Flying Fish Coaster
102 cmBig Thunder Mountain, Star ToursSoaring: Fantastic Flight, Tower of Terror, Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure
117 cm—Indiana Jones Adventure, Raging Spirits, Journey to the Center of the Earth

Measure your child at home before you go. It saves you from promising a ride they can’t take.

Disneyland or DisneySea with a toddler?

For under-4s, Disneyland is the easier day. Disney lists 21 Disneyland rides and shows you can do with a child on your lap or in a carrier, against 14 at DisneySea. Disneyland’s tallest limits stop at 102 cm. DisneySea has three big rides at 117 cm.

DisneySea suits families whose kids are 6 or older and over 102 cm, or parents who want the scenery and the newer Fantasy Springs area. Disney has official young-child itineraries for Disneyland and DisneySea.

Baby centers, strollers and food

Baby centers

They have hot water (boiled tap water kept at 70°C or above), a microwave, a sink for washing bottles, high chairs with trays, changing beds, a stand-up changing table, and private nursing rooms (men can’t enter those). Diapers and baby food are sold in some shops. Nearly every restroom in both parks has a changing table.

Strollers

Rental: ¥1,000 (≈$6) a day for a reclining stroller with a sunshade. Your child must be at least 7 months, able to sit up alone, up to 100 cm tall and up to 15 kg. Return it at the park you rented it from the same day. If you park-hop, show your rental slip at the other park to borrow one there.

Bringing your own: fine if it’s pushed from behind, has lockable wheels and isn’t motorized. Wagons, stroller carts and trikes aren’t allowed.

You can leave for a nap at your hotel and come back the same day. Tell a cast member when you exit.

Food

You can’t eat your own meals inside the parks; there are picnic areas just outside. But snacks for small children, candy, water bottles and soft drinks in plastic bottles are allowed. Jarred or canned baby food and allergy-safe meals can be brought into restaurants; tell the cast member at the door. The rest of your party orders from the menu.

Getting there from Tokyo

Take the JR Keiyo Line (or Musashino Line) from Tokyo Station to Maihama, about 15 minutes. Disneyland is a 5-minute walk from the station. For DisneySea, walk about 2 minutes to Resort Gateway Station and take the Disney Resort Line about 9 minutes to Tokyo DisneySea Station.

The Keiyo Line platforms are a long walk from the rest of Tokyo Station, so add time if you’re changing trains with a stroller.

Disney Resort Line fares: ¥300 (≈$2) for adults and ages 12 and up, ¥150 (≈$1) for ages 6–11. Up to two children under 6 ride free with each paying adult. A 1-day pass is ¥700 / ¥350. For our family of four, a DisneySea round trip is ¥1,500 (≈$9). Suica and other IC cards work.

From the airports, Disney’s own estimate is about 50 minutes from Haneda and 80 minutes from Narita by train. With a toddler and suitcases, my Narita and Haneda arrival guide compares door-to-door options. If you’re staying near the parks for a night or two, luggage forwarding can carry your suitcases there.

FAQ from parents

“Will my 1-year-old even remember it? Should we still go?” Probably not, as one Reddit parent bluntly said. But under-4s are free, ride free with your Premier Access, and there’s plenty they can do on your lap. Treat it as a day for the older kids and the adults, and plan around naps.

“Is there a ride swap, so we don’t both have to queue?” Yes, it’s called Rider Switch. Tell the cast member at the entrance before you line up.

“Do we need to buy Premier Access for our toddler?” Not if they’re 3 or under. Children 4 and over need their own.

“We’re staying three nights. Should we add another park day?” If you have a toddler, two park days with a rest day in between often beats back-to-back days. On a weekday, an After 5 Passport is a cheap way to add an evening.

“How do people get Frozen Premier Access?” Have the app set up with everyone’s tickets linked before you arrive, and buy early in the day. It’s ¥2,500 per person and can sell out.

Before you go: Tokyo Disney with a toddler checklist

  1. Measure your kids’ height and check it against the ride table.
  2. Mark the on-sale date: two months before your visit, at 2 p.m. Japan time.
  3. Create a MyDisney account, install the app, and add a card that works in Japan.
  4. Buy tickets for everyone 4 and up, and link all of them in one app group.
  5. List your Premier Access picks in order and budget for them per person.
  6. Pack snacks, a water bottle and a change of clothes. Toddler snacks are allowed in.
  7. Decide on the stroller: bring your own (no wagons) or rent one at ¥1,000.
  8. Find the baby centers on the park map so you aren’t searching at nap time.
