Quick answer

Best option
Book on the official site the moment a month opens: lately the 1st at 6:00 p.m. Japan time, for the whole following month. Watch the café's news page.
Cost & rules
Mains are ¥2,530 (≈$16), the kids' plate ¥1,540 (≈$10). Everyone 6 and up orders at least one item, so a family of four spends about ¥6,600 (≈$42)+.
Watch out
Count babies in your party size, arrive 15 minutes early, and know that 10 minutes late without calling cancels the booking, train delays included.

Pokémon Café in Tokyo is reservation-only, and reservations aren't currently released one day at a time. Lately, a **whole month opens in one evening**, at 6:00 p.m. Japan time, and popular time slots can fill up quickly. Getting a **Pokémon Café reservation** is mostly about knowing that date and time, having the booking details ready, and understanding a few strict rules for the day itself.

I’m a dad in Tokyo with a second-grader, and the café is a short walk from Tokyo Station, which makes it an easy add-on to a city day. Everything below comes from the café’s official site, reservation page and news posts (several only in Japanese), checked on October 9, 2026.

Ramen Dad’s note: We’ve been to the Pokémon Café and Pokémon Centers with my daughter. Because the café is near Tokyo Station, it fits easily into a city day.

When reservations open: the pattern

The café announces each month’s booking date on its news page (English version available), usually two or three weeks ahead. For the last four months it has been the same pattern:

Booking opened (Japan time)For visitsAnnounced
July 1, 2026, 6:00 p.m.All of AugustJune 19
August 1, 2026, 6:00 p.m.All of SeptemberJuly 23
September 1, 2026, 6:00 p.m.All of OctoberAugust 21
October 1, 2026, 6:00 p.m.All of NovemberSeptember 18

Each time, every seat for the whole month opened at once, at both cafés (Tokyo and Osaka). For December, the café’s own words are that the booking date “will be announced at a later date”, and that dates “may shift without notice.” If the pattern holds, that would mean November 1 at 6:00 p.m. Japan time, but that’s a guess, not a confirmed date. Don’t set your alarm until the news post is up.

This has changed before. The Tokyo café closed for a renovation in early 2026 and reopened in the summer, so older blog posts describing a different system may be out of date.

6:00 p.m. Japan time, where you are

Japan doesn’t use daylight saving time, but the U.S., UK and Australia do, so your local time depends on the release date. U.S. daylight saving time ends November 1, 2026, and the clocks move again in spring. Double-check the conversion for your actual release day. Unlike a lottery, this is first come, first served, so the opening minute matters.

Ramen Dad’s note: I’ve been online at 6 p.m. sharp when bookings open. Double-check the time conversion for your actual release date.

How to book, step by step

Before reservations open

Have these ready before 6:00 p.m. Japan time:

  • Your preferred date plus two or three backup dates.
  • The exact number of guests, babies included.
  • Your preferred seat type and a second choice.
  • An email inbox you can open right away for the authentication code.

If your first choice is gone, try another date or seat type. The booking isn’t done until you’ve finished the last step and received the completion email.

The booking steps

  1. Allow email from “@mail-pokemon-cafe.jp”. The site sends an authentication code from that address. Blocked or spam-filtered email is the most common reason people get stuck.
  2. Open reserve.pokemon-cafe.jp a few minutes early on a recommended browser: latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a computer, latest iOS, or Android 13+ with Chrome.
  3. Agree to the terms and choose the Tokyo café.
  4. Enter your party size, including babies. You can’t change it after booking.
  5. Pick a date, time and seat type (seat types below). You can’t choose a specific table.
  6. Verify your email with the code, then enter your details.
  7. Optional: reservation-only goods. You can add up to 3 special items, paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Amex, Diners, Discover). You can’t add, change or cancel them later, and they’re cancelled if you cancel the booking.
  8. Save the completion email. It has your reservation number and the cancellation link.

Seat types at Pokémon Café Tokyo

SeatParty size
A2–4
B1–2
C1–6

At Osaka, A and B seat 2–6 and C seats 1–6.

Groups of 7 or more make separate bookings, each with a different email address. To sit near each other, book the same name, time and seat type, then contact the café in advance; they’ll try, but don’t promise.

One reservation per email address. Want two different days? You need a second email address.

Official FAQ

Rules that trip people up

No proxy bookings

The reservation page bans booking on someone else’s behalf and using a booking made that way, along with reselling reservations. If the café finds out, the booking is cancelled, entry is refused and nothing is refunded, including the special goods. Skip “reservation services” and resold slots.

The café may also call or email the contact details you give. If they can’t reach you, the booking can be cancelled, so use a phone number and email you’ll actually check while traveling.

The 10-minute rule

Arrive at the café entrance 15 minutes before your time (10 minutes for the first A-seat slot at 10:40 a.m.). If you’re 10 minutes late without calling, the booking cancels itself, and the café says this includes train delays. Your 90 minutes start at your booked time, so arriving late also cuts your meal short.

Cancelling

Cancel online until 10:00 p.m. the day before (link in the completion email, or “Confirm Your Reservation” on the site). On the day, phone the café. If a typhoon or earthquake closes the café, bookings can be cancelled with no rescheduling.

Ramen Dad’s note: I’ve walked from Tokyo Station to Nihonbashi Takashimaya with a stroller. Plan to reach the 5th floor of the East Building 15 minutes early.

Pokémon Café with kids: what parents should know

  • Babies count in the party size, from age 0, even if they sit on your lap.
  • Ages 6 and up each order at least one item. Under-6s don’t have to.
  • Kids’ plate: the Pokémon Café Kids Plate (a Pikachu burger) is ¥1,540 (≈$10), for children 12 and under. The current menu says it comes with a set of three coloring coasters to take home; menus can change.
  • High chairs and kids’ cutlery are available but limited. Ask the staff.
  • Strollers are parked in a set spot inside. Tell the staff when you enter.
  • Baby food: only store-bought, unopened jars or pouches. Tell the staff when you enter.
  • Allergies: the café can’t remove or swap ingredients, for allergies or preferences. Check the allergen list (PDF) before you book. With a severe allergy, don’t assume the café can make a safe alternative meal. My eating out in Japan with a picky eater guide covers allergen labels and allergy-friendly chains.
  • The show lasts about 10 minutes. The menu pairs the Pika Pika Parfait with the “Let’s Make Pika Pika Parfait” show. Shows can change, end early or be cancelled without notice, with no refund or rebooking.
  • Menus come in English, Simplified Chinese and Korean.
  • No doggy bags: food can’t be taken home.

Family of four: what it costs

The official menu (tax included): main plates like the Pikachu & Pichu curry plate are ¥2,530 (≈$16), the parfait and pancakes ¥2,090 (≈$13), drinks ¥715–¥1,375 (≈$5–$9), and menu items with a souvenir mug, glass or tumbler ¥1,705–¥3,465 (≈$11–$22).

Example: 2 adults, a 6-year-old and a 2-year-old.

OrderCost
2 curry plates¥5,060 (≈$32)
Kids Plate for the 6-year-old¥1,540 (≈$10)
2-year-oldNo order required (share)
Example total¥6,600 (≈$42)
+ Pika Pika Parfait to share¥2,090 (≈$13)
+ 2 Pokémon lattes¥1,870 (≈$12)
Total with dessert and drinks¥10,560 (≈$67)

This is an example, not a fixed minimum charge; your total depends on what each person orders. Pay by card at the Tokyo café: Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Amex, Diners, Discover and UnionPay.

No reservation? What you can still do

  • Check for last-minute availability, but don’t count on it. The reservation site takes bookings until 8:00 a.m. on the day if seats remain, so check it that morning. The café offers seats at the store only when there are last-minute cancellations, and a seat is never guaranteed. Don’t plan your day around waiting outside.
  • Shop without a table. The café’s merchandise counter needs no reservation (limited stock, up to 3 of each item).
  • Go next door. Pokémon Center Tokyo DX, a regular store with no reservation, is on the same floor. My Ghibli Museum and Pokémon tickets guide lists the other Pokémon Centers in Tokyo.
  • Try another Pokémon day out: PokéPark KANTO in western Tokyo sells tickets by lottery, three months ahead.

Getting there

Pokémon Café Tokyo is on the 5th floor of Nihombashi Takashimaya S.C. East Building (2-11-2 Nihombashi, Chuo-ku). It’s about 5 minutes on foot from JR Tokyo Station’s Yaesu North Exit, directly connected to Nihombashi Station Exit B2 (Tokyo Metro Ginza and Tozai lines), and 4 minutes from Nihombashi Station on the Toei Asakusa Line. Hours are 10:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m.; the last reservation slot is 7:30 p.m.

With kids or a stroller: the 5-minute walk from Tokyo Station only gets you to the building. Allow extra time to find the East Building and get up to the 5th floor, and remember you’re due at the café 15 minutes before your booking.

If you’re coming straight from the airport, my Narita and Haneda to your hotel guide has the trains to Tokyo Station. With bags, send them ahead rather than bringing suitcases into a café.

FAQ from parents

“Does my 1-year-old count toward the party size?” Yes. The café counts everyone from age 0, and you can’t add people later. Book for the full family.

“Do kids have to order?” Children 6 and over order at least one item each. Younger kids can share.

“I never got the completion email. Is my booking OK?” The official FAQ lists the usual causes: the booking wasn’t actually completed, the email address was mistyped, heavy traffic delayed the email, or a spam filter caught it. Check your spam folder and wait a while. A mistyped address can’t be confirmed, so double-check it before you submit.

“Can a friend in Japan book for us?” Booking on someone else’s behalf is banned and can get the reservation cancelled with no refund. Book it yourself.

“We’ll be in Tokyo in December. When can we book?” Not announced as of October 9, 2026. Check the café’s news page in the second half of October.

“Is Osaka easier to get?” Osaka runs on the same booking schedule. If your trip includes Osaka, it’s a second chance with bigger A seats (2–6 people).

“What if our train is late?” Call the café before the 10-minute mark. Without a call, the booking cancels automatically.

Before you go: Pokémon Café checklist

  1. Watch the news page for your month’s booking date.
  2. Convert 6:00 p.m. Japan time to your time zone and set an alarm 10 minutes early.
  3. Whitelist “@mail-pokemon-cafe.jp” in your email.
  4. Count everyone, babies included, and pick the matching seat type.
  5. Decide on reservation-only goods before you start (max 3, no changes later).
  6. Save the completion email and the café’s phone number (03-6262-3439).
  7. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early at Takashimaya East Building 5F.
  8. Check the allergen list if anyone has allergies; no changes are possible.

Ramen Dad’s note: If you remember one thing: arrive 15 minutes early. Ten minutes late without calling, and the booking cancels itself.

Booking dates, rules, prices and hours checked against Pokémon Café’s official website, reservation site and news posts on October 9, 2026. Booking dates are announced month by month and can change, so check the news page before your release day.
